MADRAS HIGH COURT: DECISION ON TN BILL FOR RESERVATION IN MEDICAL COLLEGES FOR GOVT SCHOOL STUDENTS SHALL BE TAKEN AT THE EARLIEST

The Madras High Court observed that a decision should be held at the earliest regarding the Bill passed for the reservation of the 7.5% of seats in the medical colleges for Government school students clearing NEET. The Bill was unanimously passed in the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly on September 15th but had not received Governor’s assent yet.

The Bill was sent for the assent of the Governor on 15th September, the Bench including Justices N Kirubakaran and B Pugalendhi was told. The Court in reply remarked that the NEET results are due to be announced this Friday.

The facts that were recorded in the order were that a very less number of students say 3 to 6 students from the Government schools were permitted admission in the Medical College from the year 2017 to 2020. And this raises an alarm on the need of reservation for those students. Therefore, if no decision will be taken in the matter then, the interest of the students of the Government Schools would be affected.
