The Bombay High Court on Thursday ordered the BMC and many other municipal bodies of Mumbai to prepare data on unauthorized construction in their areas. Before Bombay High Court PIL was filed, the bench consisted of Justice Dipankar Datta and Justice G.S.Kulkarni. The PIL was filed following the collapse of a building in Bhiwandi where 40 people died on 21st September, 2020. Here the Bombay High Court expanded the scope of Public Interest Litigation (PIL). In the last hearing, the Court asked about the civic bodies to file details about the actions taken till now to modulate such types of construction, and as per the direction, affidavits were field before the honorable Court. The Court stated that almost all civic bodies have submitted the detail of the illicit structure of respective areas but are silent till now on illicit construction. The Court again asked the civic bodies to file an affidavit to Court briefing it about the list of unauthorized construction and what they have done about it till now and what they are planning to do about such structures. Court ordered the State Urban Development department to verify the affidavit filed by civic bodies and file a reply of it by October 26. Ajit Pawar the Deputy Chief Minister ordered a probe against 6 people in the collapse of a wall constructed in the town of Pandharpur and instructed to file culpable homicide against the responsible people for this incident.
